  1. Hi Chi Kim,

I am deeply sorry to hear about the death of Anh Chien. I have met Anh Chien a few times in Irvine and the last time I met him was in Danang Vietnam last year. Anh Chien was always kind and gentle toward me. Anh Chien reminded me a story that I read when I was young,
I am very sure that he had left his footprints in many hearts. I will pray for you and your family to have strength to overcome this time. Please stay strong, that is what Anh Chien wants you to be.

    Take Care Chi,

    D. Lam

  2. One year ago, on March 6, Chien and a few of us were in Las Vegas for the DSE show. Now, he is no longer here with us. Silicon Valley lost an entrepreneur and a pioneer. You are a great superior, and we always miss you, anh Chien. Rest in peace.

  4. Somehow, in a corner of my head, I am still hoping that this isn’t true. Losing chú Chien has created a void that could be never filled by another. He was like father to me. He was always there to help anyone who needed him. Let us all stay strong for him. Hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on for strength, and always remember how much you are cared about. Rest in peace, chú!!!

  5. I always remember Chien was a very nice gentlement although I did not closely work with him. In some occassion we met during break or lunch time, we chatted a bit…He was a good friend indeed. It was shocked he went away too soon…and I am deeply sorry to hear this news. Well, nothing we can do to get him back…Hope he will rest in Peace. Let us now stay strong and hold tight together as friends…

  7. Dear Minh Tri & Tuong Van:

We are shocked and so sad to hear the sad news of your loss. Please know how much you are loved and how deeply your loss is felt by all of us. You two and Minh Tri’s mother and brothers are in my thoughts and prayers.

Our hearts reach out to yours, with love, with sympathy, and with caring. May you find comfort in memories and strength in each other’s love throughout this difficult time.

    With love,
    Chu Giac & ma’ Nga

  8. I will truly miss Uncle Chien. I am so sorry for your loss Aunty Ngon and to my cousins. Minh Tri, Minh Tam and Minh Tue, we had so many fun times when we were growing up. Your Dad was always so much fun. He treated me and Ruby like his own daughters and I will never forget that. I remember when we use to ride in the car with Uncle Chien, him and Aunty Ngon would teach us how to count in Vietnamese. There are so many happy memories. I love all of you and may you find peace. ~ Andy

  9. Larger than life, a humble yet a very achieved man. He’ll be missed. A great neighbor

Pray that the loved ones find the strength to cope and cherish his life

  10. Anh Chien and I graduated from UCB in 1981, but only became close friends since the mid 1990’s when I worked with him on the same project for a large consumer electronics company. We were both consultants and worked together again and again at different companies so it was naturally that he shared with me the passions and amazing stories of Silicon Valley companies that he could picture himself in it, It didn’t take long for me to realize he had the vision and determination to pursue his own dream and became a successful entrepreneur. Despite the success of Acronics which he started all by himself, I could tell something was amiss. I mean he could sit back, enjoy the fruit of his labor and grow old with the grandchildren. Being hard-working and plenty of wild ideas, he persuaded me into joining him to develop some exciting and entertaining products.

I remembered one cold winter night, when the first batch of the PC boards freshly came out of the assembly line. He anxiously waited for me to come over after work. We both sat down on the lab bench and tried to bring up the video and audio. It was past 2:00am when we eventually got everything working and Minh Tri immediately took a picture of us proudly showing off the working product. We both exhausted but definitely had a good time together. Then there were times to name this baby we had quite a few bursts of laughter for calling out silly names.

It was just a matter of time before I found myself involved in other new ideas of his. I must admit that I occasionally found excuse for not coming over to debug some issues with the new design. I just wanted him to go home early or one less headache to deal with for that day. I know he was enthusiastic and passionate in doing things he called “the real engineering work” and so was I

It is unfair that his passion was abruptly ended so soon. There are still many things he wanted to do. He is no longer with us but I’ll remember all the great moments we had shared and never forget you anh Chien.

  11. Dear Bac Ngon and precious family,
I am so shocked to hear the sad news, and deeply regret not being able to be there to share with you my sorrows and sympathy. Bac Chien was a very kind and brilliant man, always smiling whenever I saw him. He will be missed greatly. I will keep you all in my thoughts, and hope you find strength and peace through this difficult time.

    With love,
    Kathy

  14. On the behalf of the Cal VSA family, we would like to send our condolences to Bac Chien’s family. It’s truly a loss for our community and we would like to thank Bac Chien and his family for all their contributions to our Vietnamese community here at UC Berkeley.

Bac Chien was always an avid supporter of Cal VSA, helping us empower the future generations of leaders. I was given the great opportunity of working and talking to him last year during my term as External Vice President for Cal VSA. He was supportive of our new program, VISION, of educating the youths about Vietnamese and Vietnamese American issues. Thank you for all the support you have and continue to give us.

  16. My prayers are with Anh Chien’s family and friends. Anh Chien was a very good man that will be truly missed. He had a kind heart and soul to give back to the community to make the world a better place. He was definitely a wonderful role model to make a positive difference for the younger generations to look up to. I pray that his legacy, teachings, and influence continues for many generations to come. Anh Chien please rest in peace, you will be missed.

    Sa

  18. Our hearts and prayers are with Anh Chien’s family and friends during these rough times. Anh Chien will always be remembered as a man with abundance of love and generosity for the less fortunate. Anh Chien contributed very generously to support our “For The Children” fundraiser in 2011, making a difference in 11 different orphanages (consisted of children and seniors) from Tra Vinh to the high land areas of Vietnam. His generosity helped brought smiles to the old and young as they were assured that people like him still cares for them. On behalf of the less fortunate from Vietnam and Ban Hoa Hau Ao Dai, we thank you from the bottom of our heart and hope you rest in peace Anh Chien.

  20. It struck me really hard since we are the same age. Whenever we saw each other, we always jokingly called each other “Ông xuôi hụt”. Even though we never became “in-laws,” I always considered you to be like family. Thinking back to our days on the Berkeley campus, I remember the first time I saw you and chi Ngân at a Cal VSA meeting. You were such a nice couple; actively involved and always helping around VSA meetings. You were a political activist who rallied for boat people on the UC campus. I admired you for your nationalist thinking and pride in your Vietnamese heritage. Once you told me that you would use Vietnamese names for your children. Indeed their names are not just beautiful but have good meanings too. We had great times together– partying, singing and dancing, and one time my wife and I did not leave your house until 5am on a Sunday! You were born and raised in Nhatrang and I’m from Saigon but I spent 4 years of high school in Nhatrang so we both share the love for the beautiful & romantic city of Nhatrang. I always asked you to explore the plan to acquire land to build a senior living center so we could retire together in Nhatrang. I remember about 10 years ago, while having a haircut by Oanh who is also from Nhatrang, we talked a lot about the city and she asked if I knew anh Chiến. She told me her mom is a relative, distant cousin of anh Chiến. She said that you were such a good person who always helped relatives in Nhatrang. Throughout the years I heard many praises about you & chi Ngân from many people and that’s why I told Minh Trí and Minh Tâm “Be proud of your Dad”.

One day, out of the blue, you told me “Phật Bà Quan Âm và Mẹ Maria” is the same being. I believe that also and so my wife & I said a “Hail Mary” prayer at your funeral.

Always in our thoughts and prayers,
    Công & Hồng,
    Chris, Kim, Kevin

  21. I had the pleasure of playing recreational volleyball with Chien over the recent years. I am truly sorry to hear he has left us, but his memory will remain. To his family, please take comfort in knowing he had a special affect on all that met him, in small and great ways. He will be missed.

  22. My deepest condolecences to the Chien’s family. I witnessed Chien enjoying sand volleybal during lunch time many times. I’m sure he’ll enjoy also what’s ahead of him.

  23. Hi Chi Ngon, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I’m sorry to receive this sad news quite late, just a few days ago. The images of Anh Chi on the Berkeley campus that are still in my mind from more than 30 years ago, as the most smart and beautiful couple whom I admired so much. May you and your family be comforted in this time of grief.

  24. Yêu thương gởi anh. To my darling, the love of my life.
It has been 3.5 weeks without you. I miss you and hold you in my dreams.
I’ll wait for you till death will bring us together.

    Oh my love, my darling
    I’ve hungered for your touch
    A long lonely time,
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much,
    Are you still mine?
    I need your love,
    I need your love
God speed your love to me.

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea,
To the open arms of the sea, yeah!
Lonely rivers sigh “wait for me, wait for me”
    I’ll be coming home,
    Wait for me.
